Newly released video shows when a cop was shot with an AR-15 rifle in Tehama County, California. 39-year-old Joseph Pate is the suspect accused of shooting at the officer.
The shooting was on October 15, 2023, around 11:38 a.m. A California Highway Patrol Officer approached a disabled vehicle on Interstate 5.
The officer approached Joseph’s vehicle and asks Joseph to roll down the window. The suspect then gets out of the vehicle and shoots at the officer.
The officer quickly returned fire and shot Joseph. Joseph then fired at the officer again, hitting the officer multiple times. The officer was shot in the leg and torso.
Joseph is seen getting up and firing more shots. Joseph then steals the officer’s patrol car and drives off in it, leaving the officer wounded on the side of the highway.
Joseph then slams into an 18-wheeler truck and crashes on the side of the road. The collision caused the 18-wheeler truck to flip onto its side.
Joseph was arrested and transported to a hospital, where he later died. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries. The 10-year veteran officer, despite being shot in the abdomen, shoulder, and leg, has since physically recovered and returned to duty.
