Gregory Dowana pled guilty in June 2026 to killing Des’mon Thompson at a gas station on Freedom Dr. Charlotte, NC. Gas station shootings have become increasingly common.

The shooting was in February of 2025 at the To-Go Food Mart on Freedom Drive. The men got into an argument about something at the gas station.

Gregory sprayed Des’mon in the face with pepper spray which then prompted Des’mon to pull out a gun and fire shots at Gregory.

Gregory ran down the aisle and took out two guns in both hands, shooting back. Gregory shot Des’mon several times. Des’mon died from the shooting.

Gregory was arrested charged with murder. Before a criminal trial began, Gregory pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to 80-108 months in prison.
