SUSPECTS PLEAD GUILTY TO CAR-JACKING AND SHOOTING MAN, VICTIM NEEDS OSTOMY BAG

On January 23, 2025 Kaionta Dabney, 28, and Bobby Valentine, 32, were sentenced to prison after carjacking and shooting a man in Charlotte, NC. The victim was injured severely to the point that he needs an ostomy bag to defecate and urinate. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

Kaionta was involved in two separate carjackings. The first was on January 11, 2023, when Kaionta and his co-conspirator, Marcus Mayfield were following a Dodge Hellcat vehicle.

When the dodge Hellcat parked, Kaionta and Marcus ran to the driver and brandished a firearm. The suspects took the victim’s key fob for the vehicle. They took a gun and $2,000 from the victim, and then sped off with the Hellcat.

11 days later on January 22, 2023, Kaionta and Bobby Valentine followed a red Chevrolet Camaro to apartments in east Charlotte.

When the Camaro parked Kaionta and Bobby approached, pointed a firearm at the male victim and demanded his car.

The victim tried to run away, but Kaionta shot him multiple times. The suspects then got in the victim’s vehicle and sped away. The shooting inflicted serious bodily injury to the victim who required emergency surgery.

The victim was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. The victim was released from the hospital, but he now must use an ostomy bag in his stomach to urinate and defecate.

Kaionta, Marcus, and Bobby were arrested weeks later charged with carjacking and other offenses.

Kaionta later pleaded guilty to possession and brandishing of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence for the first carjacking, and carjacking resulting in serious bodily injury for the second incident. Kaionta was sentenced to 84 months in prison.

Bobby pleaded guilty to carjacking resulting in serious bodily injury and possession of a firearm by a felon and was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

Marcus has pleaded guilty to carjacking and is awaiting sentencing.
