A inmate died at the Mecklenburg County Jail today, jail deaths have doubled under Sheriff Garry McFadden
On August 31, 2025 an inmate at The Mecklenburg County Jail died. The jail is located at 801 East Fourth Street Charlotte, NC. The dead inmate was a 62-year-old, black male.

At 5:35 am, a medical emergency was called by a detention officer in the housing unit where the inmate was assigned after he was discovered to be unresponsive.
Lifesaving measures were administered and continued until emergency medical personnel arrived. The Charlotte Fire Department arrived along with Mecklenburg EMS. Jail deaths have doubled under Sheriff Garry Mcfadden.
The inmate was pronounced deceased at 6:13 am. The jail is known for ignoring inmates in the jail. Even in the suicide watch pod, there is an intercom that inmates can call into for help or if they are feeling sick.

Jail guards will ignore your calls for help when inmates push the intercom, but the jail fails to take responsibility when inmates die in the jail.
The dead inmate was in the jail since June 2025. This is the second inmate to die inside the jail this month, on August 6, 2025 a 38-year-old latino male inmate died in the jail.
