Another Chief Deputy has quit under the terrible narcissistic leadership of Sheriff Garry Mcfadden, claiming toxic work environment
Another chief deputy has resigned from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, accusing Sheriff Garry McFadden of poor leadership and harboring a toxic work environment in Charlotte, NC. Chief Deputy Christopher Allen quit his job on August 18, 2025. This is the second chief deputy to quit within a year for the same reasons due to Garry Mcfadden’s poor leadership, in November 2024 Chief Deputy Kevin Canty resigned.

Chief Deputy Allen said his time working for Sheriff Mcfadden has been the worst year of his entire law enforcement career. Chief Deputy Allen has been in law enforcement for over 20 years. Allen previously worked for the Union County Sheriff’s Office. There have been an abhorrent amount of jail deaths under Garry Mcfadden’s leadership too.
Allen says that Sheriff Mcfadden even mentioned that employees should fear him as sheriff. Sheriff Mcfadden is known to mentally and verbally abuse his employees and executive command staff. Former Deputy Chief Kevin Canty said the same thing about Sheriff Mcfadden’s atrocious arrogant behavior.
The former chief deputy said:
“During my tenure at this agency, I have endured constant backstabbing, lies, disrespect and false narratives, all orchestrated by you Garry Mcfadden, in an attempt to assassinate my character. The fact that you willingly coerced other staff members to malign me in many ways, greatly contributed to my inability to no longer trust you.”
Sheriff Mcfadden is also accused of bullying his staff members. In fact Sheriff Mcfadden was heard on video calling his own employees racial slurs, cracker, and nigger. The sheriff has indeed exhibited narcissistic behaviors.
There has been constant mismanagement at the Mecklenburg County jail under Garry Mcfadden. In fact a jail employee stabbed her supervisor inside the jail on the job.
Chief Deputy Allen went on to write in the resignation letter,
Garry Mcfadden painted a picture of a great agency where employees were happy and just needed a little guidance. The picture you painted was not true, and quite the opposite.
Chief Deputy Allen says that Sheriff Mcfadden created a toxic and abusive culture in the sheriff’s office by targeting employees. Sheriff Mcfadden openly promotes mental health and advocates for those in the community but he is the root cause of many who suffer under his leadership.
Chief Deputy Allen also said Sheriff Mcfadden has dysfunctional leadership and mismanages the resources of the sheriff’s office and the county, also mentioning that the sheriff’s actions are less than ethical and professional.
The Chief Deputy went on to say:
Sheriff McFadden, if the community could actually see who you really are when there are no cameras and audience for you to entertain, they would see the true narcissist that you are. I totally agree with former Chief Deputy Kevin Canty when he stated that this agency has a culture that fosters a toxic and abusive environment, created by you.
Sheriff Mcfadden is known to mentally and verbally abuse his employees along with executive and command staff.
