A major fatal 18-wheeler truck collision occurred on June 21, 2024 on Interstate 485 in Charlotte, NC. One person was killed and 4 more people were hurt.
The crash occurred around 8 a.m. An 18-wheeler gas tanker truck slammed on brakes due to someone else stopping.
The abrupt brake application caused the large truck to run off the road and into oncoming traffic. The truck then crashed into another 18-wheeler truck head on.

That crash then caused multiple other crashes that resulted with vehicles crashing into the 18-wheeler trucks and other vehicles.

The fatal collision closed traffic on Interstate 485 all day. The crash is still being investigated.
