Socrates Gomez, 41, died from a cocaine and fentanyl overdose on New Year’s Day 2026 January 1st at the Marriott Hotel located at 8540 Independence Blvd Charlotte, NC. New information shows he died from a fentanyl overdose. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

Socrates was found dead by the room cleaner in the hotel room. Drugs were found in his room. Cocaine 0.12 mg/L
and fentanyl 2.7 ng/mL were found in Socrate’s blood during postmortem toxicologic analysis.
Fentanyl is a powerful respiratory suppressant and causes cessation of breathing. Cocaine is a cardiotoxic stimulant. Stimulants
can cause cardiac arrhythmias, which are a kind of heart attack.
Socrates Gomez died as a result of fentanyl and cocaine toxicity. Socrates was arrested in 2017 after $500,000 cash and 2 kilogram bricks of cocaine were found in a drug stash house in Charlotte.
