Socrates Gomez, 41, died on New Year’s Day 2026 January 1st at the Marriott Hotel located at 8540 Independence Blvd Charlotte, NC. Socrates had a wife and 3 kids. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
On New Year’s Day Socrates was in a room at the Marriott when he was found dead by room cleaning staff. His body was getting cold and he was not breathing. New Year’s Day has brought a lot of chaos over the years.
Hotel staff called 911. Paramedics were not able to resuscitate Socrates. No foul play is suspected, but a possible drug overdose is being investigated.
Speaking of drugs, Socrates was arrested in 2017 after $500,000 cash and 2 kilogram bricks of cocaine were found in a drug stash house in Charlotte.
