HIGHWAY PATROL CHASES BMW AT HIGH SPEEDS ON I-77, CHASE CAUSES WRONG WAY DWI HEAD ON CRASH

A DWI suspect had a 0.22 blood alcohol percentage during a high speed chase on Interstate 77

37-year-old Mark Lee was arrested on July 31, 2026 by the State Highway Patrol on I-77 in Charlotte, NC accused of speeding and causing a DWI head on crash that injured multiple people. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

Mark was driving a BMW vehicle on I-77 at night allegedly speeding going 89 mph in a 55 mph zone. A state trooper attempted to pull Mark over, but he is accused of speeding off down the interstate.

State troopers chased Mark at high speeds. Mark was driving the wrong way on I-77, Mark crashed head on into 2 vehicles on the intestate near Sunset Road. The crash caused significant injuries to the people in the other vehicles.

Mark was screened for impairment and he had a 0.22 blood alcohol percentage. Mark was arrested charged with speeding, driving wrong way, hit and run, and DWI.
