Cop on cop violence. Tara Whitman dated a state trooper and a sheriff’s deputy. The woman dumped the deputy and a fight started between the cops. The state trooper shot the deputy dead, and has not been arrested. Anyone else would of been arrested. JERRY JERRY JERRY!!
Capt. Adam Bean, 42, with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office was shot dead multiple times at the home of Tara Whitman his ex-girlfriend by North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Nekime Oxendine, 44, in Hope Mills, NC on March 27, 2026. Tara Whitman is the sister of the Highway Patrol Commander Freddy Johnson. Tara is a lieutenant with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Oxendine is a sergeant with the highway patrol. Captain Adam was the assistant chief of detectives. Tara dated Oxendine first then she broke up with him and entered a long term relationship with Captain Adam, she ended up staying in same home with Adam. Tara then broke up with Captain Adam and got back in a romantic relationship with Sergeant Oxendine.
In 2022 Sergeant Oxendine sent a text message to Tara accusing her of talking to Captain Adam:
“I see u have been talking to Adam!!! Best Wishes!!! Better tell that [expletive] to get ready too!!!”
Captain Adam texted Tara in 2023 saying:
“I want a future with you and a child. So getting the house for us is what I’m doing”
Tara and Captain Adam lived together for around 2 years in the same house. But in 2025 Tara broke up with Adam and jumped right back into a relationship with Sergeant Oxendine.

But jealousy was in the relationship, as Sergeant Oxendine asked Tara if Captain Adam looked better than him. Even in another text message Oxendine was mad that Tara let Captain Adam have the key to her heart, saying:
“He can lure u in and out of my life on demand! That’s the Man u miss! No matter how much u tell urself no! He led u to betray me once and has the power to do it again! If he didn’t, u would have been stopped all of this immediately!”
On March 27, 2026 Captain Adam asked Tara to meet in person so they could talk. Tara agreed to meet and then she changed her mind and stopped responding to Captain Adam’s text messages.
At 10:40 at night Captain Adam came to Tara’s house anyway to talk. Sergeant Oxendine was in the house with Tara. Adam shouted that if Tara did not come outside he would beep the horn and cause a scene. Captain Adam was upset that Sergeant Oxendine’s truck was parked at Tara’s home.
Tara came outside her house with Sergeant Oxendine and all hell broke loose. Captain Adam moved aggressively toward Sergeant Oxendine. It was then that Sergeant Oxendine fired two warning shots into the ground.
Captain Adam continued moving towards Oxendine. At that point Sergeant Oxendine shot and killed Captain Adam. Tara ran to Captain Adam as he lay on the ground and began to administer mouth to mouth CPR, likely infuriating Sergeant Oxendine that her mouth was on Captain Adam’s once again.
Captain Adam died in Tara’s front yard. 911 was called, cops and paramedics arrived on scene. Sergeant Oxendine was never arrested after killing Captain Adam. Cops would of arrested a regular person/non-cop had a civilian shot and killed someone in this situation, especially if the victim was a cop.
But leniency is given to police officers, unfairly so. The Cumberland County district attorney has recused himself from the investigation. Now the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has taken over the killing.
When the investigation is complete, the SBI will present its findings to the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys, and they will decide whether to press charges or not.
Sergeant Oxendine was placed on administrative duty after the deadly shooting.
