Jackson Hopper, 26, is accused of murdering his girlfriend Ellie Young, 22, in a wild shooting on Oct. 19, 2024 in Shelby County, Tenn. Ellie was a medical student at the University of Tennessee.

Jackson and Ellie were in a dating relationship, but they were having problems. Ellie told Jackson that she wanted to break the relationship off.

Ellie was at a breast cancer awareness walk. After the event Ellie was shot and killed by a suspect outside of her jeep vehicle.

Ellie was shot 3 times at point blank range. The suspect then fled. Witnesses saw the homicide and say the suspect fled in a Honda vehicle.

Police spotted the suspect vehicle and initiated a high speed chase. The suspect even went the wrong way in traffic during the chase. Cops used a pursuit intervention technique to flip over Jackson’s car at high speeds.

Jackson was injured during the vehicle roll over. Jackson was arrested and charged with first degree murder, felony evading, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.
