Around 5:40 a.m., Damonta was driving a Honda Accord at a high rate of speed when he ran off the road and struck a brick sign. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
The impact caused the vehicle to overturn. Damonta died on the scene. The Honda had extensive damage. Damonta was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision.
Damonta was recently released from prison. It is unknown if he was impaired during the crash.
