A crash on I-485 led to Aris Townsend being killed after a chase with state troopers, the car hit other vehicles and drove up hill
26-year-old Aris Townsend died in a crash in a high speed chase with the North Carolina Highway Patrol in Charlotte, NC on August 10, 2026. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
Aris was driving on I-485 when a North Carolina State Trooper attempted a traffic stop on Aris during rush hour traffic. Aris was accused of driving dangerously, which led to the traffic stop. Aris did not stop and he sped away.
The state trooper chased Aris on I-485. Aris hit 2 vehicles during the chase injuring the drivers. Aris then drove up a hill and crashed into a tree, he died on scene. State troopers are seen approaching the hill with their guns out.
The injured victims were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Attorneys for the injured parties are looking to sue the NC Highway Patrol for prompting the dangerous chase and pursuing the chase over a traffic violation. The crash was near exit 33.
Police departments and cities get sued a lot for engaging in high speed chases that injure or kill people. In fact video shows Charlotte police chasing a man for no apparent reason, the chase killed a woman, and her family is now suing police.
Another family is suing police for $10 million after a mother and daughter were killed in a crash involving a police chase.
