Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department officer Stephen Brown was driving drunk on Highway 55

An officer with CMPD identified as Stephen Brown was arrested in April 2025 for allegedly driving under the influence. He had a 0.16 blood intoxication level. Although he is a cop in Charlotte, he was driving drunk and arrested in York County, SC.

Officer Brown was driving on highway 55 in the afternoon when a police officer with the Clover Police Department pulled Brown over.

Officer Brown was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech. Officer Brown exhibited several cues for intoxication.

Office Brown blew a 0.16 blood alcohol content during a breathalyzer test, which is twice the legal limit. Officer Brown was arrested charged with DUI and issued a $2,262 bond and then bonded out of jail on a personal recognizance.

Police say he was off duty at the time of his arrest. Officer Brown was put on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Officer Brown was hired by CMPD on October 16, 2006 and was assigned to the Airport Division.
