ARREST MADE AFTER MAN KILLED ON INTERSTATE 85, TRAFFIC BACKED UP FOR HOURS

Carleton Cartier, 58, was shot and killed on I-85 in Charlotte, NC on August 28, 2021. Kevin Jordan, 24, was charged with Carleton’s murder.

Carleton was driving on I-85 on August 28th in the evening when several shots were fired at him from another vehicle. Carleton was hit by the gunfire and wrecked.  

Emergency aid was rendered, but Carleton was pronounced deceased on scene. The murder caused drivers to wait in traffic for hours as the scene was investigated. 

Due to tall concrete medians and exits out of reach, many drivers had no choice but to sit and wait in snarling traffic. After a few hours, the scene was cleared and traffic began to flow again.   

A man killed himself on I-77 North in 2019, the situation caused a massive traffic back up for over 5 hours. Starving children and angry adults waited in despair. 

Per the I-85 homicide Kevin was pulled over on August 28th in a traffic stop but he failed to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. 

Kevin eventually jumped from the vehicle and fled the scene. With the assistance of K9 and aviation units, Kevin was caught and arrested. 

Kevin is charged with murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, felony flee to elude, and resisting public officers.
