Atrium Health Hospital is in hot water after they caused a little girl to become paralyzed in Charlotte, NC. Ma’Nyla Conley is the little girl that was at the hospital receiving treatment when she was paralyzed due to a hospital procedure in 2025. Now Ma’nyla’s family is suing the hospital for negligence.

Ma’Nyla was born prematurely. Medical staff put a catheter in Ma’Nyla to help her medical emergency, but the catheter was put in the little girl improperly. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

The catheter then caused Ma’nyla to have a stroke which then caused Ma’nyla to be paralyzed. The family wasn’t notified on what caused Ma’nyla’s stroke until several months later.
Atrium Health Hospital recognized the mistake and offered the family a measly $5 million settlement, but the family rejected the money because it will cost millions of dollars to fund a lifestyle for Ma’nyla due to her medical condition.

Paralysis medical treatment is a lot more expensive than what people think. Ma’Nyla will likely need 24/7 care with in home doctor’s visits and expensive equipment. There are many services, treatments, and conditions that medical insurance just will not cover.
The family filed a malpractice lawsuit in 2026 and is seeking more than the $5 million offer. The lawsuit is seeking damages to be paid by the hospital, claiming negligence and loss of enjoyment of life.
