Niolis Collazo, 23, was murdered in a wild shooting on May 6, 2023 in Waukegan, Illinois. Niolis was a volleyball coach at Waukegan High School and a counselor at Smith Middle School.
Niolis was driving home when gunshots rang out, she was shot and killed. Paramedics arrived and took Niolis to the hospital, she died during emergency care.
The victim was likely not the intended target, rather she was an innocent bystander of the gunfire.
Waukegan Mayor Ann Taylor released the following statement:
“Niolis Collazo was a beloved Waukeganite, a cherished coach, and a mentor to Waukegan students. While nothing we ever can do will fully ease the Collazo’s family pain and anguish during this time. As Mayor of Waukegan, I extend my deepest condolences to Ms. Collazo’s family.”
