A large fire took place in Charlotte, NC in the Southpark area right across the street from South Park mall and the luxury Del Friscos restaurant. The fire was on Liberty Row Dr. at the construction site of apartments on May 18, 2023.
The large apartment tower was under construction when 100 plus workers were on site. A machine that sprays foam overheated and caught fire. The fire quickly spread to the entire apartment complex.
Several fire trucks from 5 different fire department precincts in Charlotte responded to the massive blaze.
Over 100 workers were in the building at the time of the fire. 15 workers had to be rescued by the fire department. A crane operator had to be rescued by firefighters from 12 plus stories up while on the crane.

2 construction workers are unaccounted for and may be dead. The construction foreman was on scene during the fire. OSHA will investigate.
The fire caused roads in the area to be shutdown. Traffic is heavy and backed up for hours.
The surrounding fire departments of several counties took the calls of Charlotte Fire Department while the department was handling the South Park fire.
Some of those helping fire departments were from Pineville, Wesely Chapel, Cornelius, Gastonia, and Concord.
