On August 15, 2026 a KNBC News helicopter killed 3 people in Los Angeles. KNBC news reporter Eliana Moreno was killed in the crash along with the pilot George Marciniw. A third man on the ground was also killed, he is identified as 29-year-old Edy Gutierrez Mejia.
Eliana was a news reporter for KNBC, George was the pilot of the helicopter.

The two were in the helicopter reporting on a bus crash that involved a SUV crashing into a city bus that killed 2 people in the traffic accident.

A WBTV news helicopter crashed in Charlotte, NC killing 2 employees of the news station. The families later sued WBTV for millions of dollars, the lawsuit was settled out of court for millions of dollars.
Around 7 p.m. the KNBC news helicopter began to sputter and have engine trouble, decreasing rather rapidly in altitude. Eliana is heard saying can you not pull up.
The radio transmission then goes out and the helicopter crashes into a warehouse. Edy was an employee at the warehouse and was killed during the collision. A large explosion and plume of smoke was seen after the helicopter crashed.
Basketball great NBA star Kobe Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash in California also.
Other people were hurt. Eliana had been in the news industry since September 2010 and she has reported for several California media outlets.

California Governor Gavin Newsom released a statement:
“Our hearts are with the victims and families of tonights devastating Metro bus and helicopter crashes in Chatsworth, and with the entire NBC4 family.
The crash will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.
