Juneteenth is a federal holiday meant to celebrate blacks being freed from the terrorism of slavery in the USA. Slavery in the United States went on for 300 years, even after the Declaration of Independence was declared, which established that all Americans are free.
Slavery ended in 1865, but it took around 3 years for all slaves to be freed due to the word spreading to vast territories in the south, and greedy slave owners that refused to free the black slaves.
