Chris Smith, 31, died on April 17, 2023. Chris played several seasons in the NFL. His girlfriend Petara Cordero was killed in 2019 during an horrific car accident. Chris is from Mount Ulla, North Carolina and attended West Rowan High School.
Circumstances surrounding Smith’s death are unknown at this time. The case is being investigated as a death investigation and not a homicide. It is also not known what state and city Smith was found dead in.
Smith was a fifth round NFL draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014, he played three seasons there.
Smith also played with the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, Baltimore Ravens, and Houston Texans.
In March 2023 Smith signed a contract to play for the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL.
Smith’s girlfriend Petara was killed after being hit by a car on the I-90 highway in March 2019.
Perara was a passenger in Smith’s Lamborghini, the luxury car had a tire malfunction and struck the median wall.Perara exited the vehicle and was standing on the road’s shoulder when a car smashed into the Lamborghini and hit Perara.
Perara died at the hospital.
