4 Mallard Creek High School students were in a fatal crash, Caleb Kibula was killed
On February 2, 2024 a fatal wreck occurred involving 4 students from Mallard Creek High School. One of the students identified as Caleb Kibula was a football player. The deadly collision was at the intersection of Hambright Road and Everette Keith Road in Huntersville, NC.

At 9:35 p.m. the 4 Mallard Creek students identified as Lawson Collins, Josiah Wiggins, Caleb, Kibula, and Emani Blanco were all in a vehicle together.
At some point the vehicle collided with another vehicle or a tree and overturned at the mentioned intersection.
Emergency crews responded to the scene. All four passengers in the overturned vehicle were trapped inside and needed to be extracted by the Huntersville Fire Department.

Officials performed life saving measures on Caleb, but he died at the scene. Lawson, Josiah, and Emani had life threatening injuries and were taken to Atrium Health Hospital and Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital. Caleb played offensive lineman for the school football team.
Mallard Creek released the following statement:
Four of our Mallard Creek students were involved in a car accident on Friday evening. I am deeply saddened to inform you that one of our students, Caleb Kibula, died. The other three students, Lawson Collins, Josiah Wiggins, and Emani Blanco, are hospitalized for injuries sustained in the crash. We are praying for all the families and friends of our students at this very difficult time.
