21-year-old JaLan Riddick died on June 6, 2026 in the Mecklenburg County Jail in uptown Charlotte, NC on 801 East Fourth Street.
Jalan was in jail for multiple offenses. Jalan had a medical crisis in his jail pod in the afternoon. Jalan was passed out on the floor foaming at the mouth and shaking.
Jalan died on scene. Inmates dying in the Mecklenburg County Jail is at an all time high.
Sheriff Garry Mcfadden makes excuses and deflects blame on why all of the jail deaths are happening under his watch. In fact during a state senate hearing Mcfadden said inmates are coming to the jail sick- as an explanation as to why so many jail deaths are happening while he is sheriff.
Garry Mcfadden is currently under investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation after accusations were brought to court that sheriff department vehicles were used to take out of town visitors to strip clubs during a conference in Charlotte.
