Leslye Torrence, 42, is the director of Midwood Learning Academy daycare, she was arrested on March 8, 2024 accused of several child abuse violations in Charlotte, NC. The daycare is located on Central Ave. and was even shutdown.
The arrest stems after several children from the daycare were put in a vehicle that began to drive while the back doors were open and the children were not wearing seat belts in February 2024.
One child was horizontally laying across the other children’s’ laps. The situation all started when a parent had confronted daycare workers about the kids playing at Cordelia Park unsupervised.
That is when the daycare employees quickly stuffed the kids in a car and drove off in the unsafe manner described above.
Warrants were then issued for Leslye.
Leslye was arrested, charged with six counts of misdemeanor child abuse. Midwood Learning Academy daycare was shut down by state health officials at the end of February 2024.
The North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services suspended the facility’s license after determining that emergency action is required to protect the health, safety and welfare of children.
The arrest warrants says Leslye created a substantial risk by transporting the victim kids in a vehicle without a car seat or seat belt and the rear drivers side door left open while the vehicle was in motion.
