On December 7, 2022 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Peter Lombardo, 38, was arrested charged with driving while impaired in Charlotte, NC. Officer Lombardo is accused of being in his police issued squad car drunk on Interstate 277.
On December 7th at 3:00 a.m., officers discovered a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police marked patrol vehicle parked in a grassy area on the side of Interstate-277 near 12th Street in Charlotte.
The curious officers that made the discovery were wondering why the cop car was just sitting on the side of the highway, so they approached and found Officer Lombardo located inside of the vehicle allegedly sloppy drunk.
Officer Lombardo was not working in an on duty capacity at the time of the incident and he was dressed in plain clothes.
Officer Lombardo was operating his assigned take home marked patrol vehicle. During the investigation, responding officers determined that Officer Lombardo showed signs of drunkenness.
So, sobriety tests were administered. An Intoxilyzer breathalyzer test was performed and it indicated that Officer Lombardo had a blood alcohol content level of .17, exceeding the North Carolina legal limit of .08. Officer Lombardo was arrested and charged with DWI. The police Internal DWI Policy states that any officer arrested with a BAC above .14 will be cited for termination.
Officer Lombardo has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.
Officer Lombardo was hired in May 19, 2008. But this should come to no surprise because cops get arrested all the time.
