Charlotte Country Day Head Cross Country Coach Matthew Elliott, 39, was arrested on November 13, 2024 accused of having sexual relations with female student Emma Lewis at the rich private school. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
The female victim is now an adult, she reported to police that she had been in an inappropriate relationship with her former cross country coach Matthew while enrolled at Charlotte Country Day School. Many wealthy kids go to the school, as it is very expensive to attend.
Cops say the victim told investigators that Matthew began flirting with her and made numerous advances. According to police, Matthew and the underage female victim had an inappropriate sexual relationship.
As a result of the investigation, detectives developed probable cause and obtained arrest warrants against Matthew.
Detectives arrested Matthew at his home, without incident. He was taken to the Law Enforcement Center and later transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Jail. He has been charged with indecent liberties with a student.
Matthew became the new cross country head coach at the school on January 17, 2019. On the day of Matthew’s arrest, Charlotte Country Day School tried to remove all of his information from the school website.
Emma graduated from Charlotte Country Day School and went on to run track at The University of Miami.
