Minnesota Democratic state Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark Hortman were assassinated in a brazen shooting on June 14, 2025 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
The shooter dressed as a police officer first went to the home of Minnesota politician John Hoffman, the suspect shot John and his wife Yvette Hoffman multiple times. The couple survived and underwent surgery. Political climates are heating up in America.
The suspect fled the scene, but within minutes of the first double shooting, the suspect went to the home of Melissa and Mark Hortman at 3:30 a.m. The suspect had a police vehicle that looked exactly like the local department issued patrol vehicle.
The suspect was still in a fake police uniform and knocked on the door. The Hortman’s opened the door and the suspect shot and killed them both. The suspect fled and has not been caught.
Governor Tim Walz called the attacks targeted political violence. In the suspects possible car, pamphlets of the “no king” riots and protests were found. Tim Walz ran for Vice President of the United States in 2024 as the running mate to Kamala Harris for president, but lost to Donald Trump.
Earlier this week, Melissa Hortman provided the sole Democratic vote on a HF1 bill that blocked illegal immigrants from getting medicaid coverage.
