34-year-old Mark Herron was arrested on January 20, 2024 in Charlotte, NC, he is accused of murdering Shovontae Byers, 23, in a double shooting. Shovontae was a high school basketball star.
On January 7, 2024 Shovontae and another victim were shot in a double shooting at a convenience store in Kannapolis, NC.
Both victims were transported to Atrium Cabarrus Hospital. Shovontae died at the hospital, the other victim survived.
Mark was arrested at a hotel in Charlotte on January 20th. He is charged with first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.Mark was transported to the Cabarrus County Jail without bond. Shovontae played basketball at Concord High School, where he was a star player, he graduated from the school in 2019.
