Paulo Avila, 24, and Javoris Williams, 35, were arrested charged with the murder of 17-year-old Ivan Galvez in Charlotte, NC during an alleged street race. Ivan was a student at South Meck High School.

On August 5, 2023 at 7:23 p.m. Paulo was driving a Chevy Camaro on West Arrowood Road. Javoris was also driving a Camaro.
Cops say Payulo and Javoris were street racing at high speeds. Ivan was operating a Ford Mustang and uninvolved in the alleged race. Ivan was attempting to make a left turn from W Arrowood Drive onto Bramblewood Drive when the Ford Mustang was struck on the passenger side by the Chevy Camaro driven by Paulo. The impact that occurred caused the Ford Mustang to spin 180 degrees off the right side of the roadway and into a tree. Paulo exited the Chevy Camaro and allegedly fled the scene on foot.
Cops say Javoris drove off. When officers arrived, they located the Ford Mustang against a tree with heavy passenger side damage and the Camaro with heavy front end damage. Ivan was located by officers with serious injuries and transported by medics to Atrium Health Main Hospital. But, while in route to the hospital, Ivan died in the ambulance. Witnesses gave officers a description of Paulo as the driver of the Chevy. Officers were able to locate Paulo and place him under arrest. Paulo was charged with 2nd degree murder, careless and reckless driving, and no operators license. Excessive speed is the contributing factor for this crash.
On August 9, 2023 Javoris was arrested charged with murder, reckless driving, and spontaneous speed competition.
