On January 16, 2023 Brexialee Torres-Ortiz, 11, was murdered in a street shooting in Syracuse, New York. Isael Cruz, 19, was shot also, but he survived. The suspects are Ra’sean Patterson, 18, Dahviere Griswold, 20, and a 16-year-old male.

Around 7:42 p.m., Brexialee was walking home from the store after getting milk. A vehicle pulled up and shot several times. Isael was the intended target and was shot in the leg. Brexialee was an innocent bystander and was shot multiple times.
The vehicle then drove off. Brexialee and Isael did not know each other.
Police officers and emergency personnel immediately performed first aid at the scene before Brexialee was transported to Upstate Hospital. Extensive resuscitative efforts were made at the hospital.
Tragically, after some time, Brexialee passed away as a result of her injuries. Isael later arrived at the hospital via private vehicle. Isael was treated for his injuries and released.
An investigation was commenced by Homicide Unit detectives where numerous people were interviewed, and an extensive neighborhood and city wide canvass was conducted.
In addition, several search warrants were executed, and evidence recovered was processed and thoroughly analyzed.
As a result of the above efforts, several suspects were identified as the perpetrators of this crime. Ra’sean, Dahviere, and the 16-year-old male were arrested charged with murder in the second degree, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon.
