Malik was in a vehicle in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven. Around 9 p.m. he shot and killed himself. Click here to see the many suicides in and around Charlotte.
The shot startled customers and employees. 911 was called. Witnesses described seeing Malik in the car bloodied and motionless.
Malik was pronounced dead on scene. The suicide stopped traffic on Independence Blvd. for hours.
