On December 1, 2023 Jovan Washington, 33, was shot and killed by police in West Haven CT. Jovan shot a cop in the leg before getting killed.
At 1:55 a.m., officers with the West Haven Police Department were dispatched to an apartment residence on a domestic violence complaint.
Police spoke to the complainant who reported that Jovan had attempted to strangle her and would not let her leave the apartment.
Police went to a bedroom in the apartment and spoke to Jovan who was in bed. Officer Cody Bacon informed Jovan that he was going to be taken into custody and asked him if he wanted to put on a pair of pants.
Jovan got out of bed and was moving toward a closet when he suddenly turned and reached under the mattress for a gun.
A struggle ensued during which Javon fired one shot striking Officer Bacon in the leg. Officer Alex Triscritti then fired multiple shots striking Jovan.
Officers on scene provided medical aid to Jovan and requested Emergency Medical Services to respond.
EMS transported Jovan to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The police transported Officer Bacon to the hospital for treatment.
Jovan died of gunshot wounds of the torso and extremities.
