Marquez Pinder, 29, Jared James, and Elijah Dyous are members of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and were arrested in July 2026 accused of hazing students that attended the University of Miami. Two victims were pledging to become post graduate members of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. One of the victims was a University of Miami law student, that student required surgery after suffering lacerations and kidney damage during the pledging process hazing.
The other victim was a Miami Dade firefighter who needed critical medical attention as a result of hazing while pledging Kappa fraternity.
Prosecutors said the two victims were hit with paddles and large candy canes around 5 feet long at an apartment in Sweetwater, FL as part of a Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity initiation over a series of days.
The two male pledgees failed to answer questions about the fraternity’s history, they then were instructed to do a half squat with one arm pointed forward, the victims were then struck repeatedly on their buttocks.
The abuse happened in sessions that lasted for hours, according to prosecutors. The beatings caused the victims to bleed through their clothes. The victims left and went to the hospital for ICU treatment. Officials say the injuries could’ve been fatal without immediate treatment.
Jared, Marquez, and Elijah were identified as the Kappa fraternity suspects, they were all arrested charged with attempted manslaughter, aggravated battery, and hazing.
The Kappas are obsessed with red and white candy canes, which explains why the victims were beat with the large life size candy canes. Kappas also have to act a certain weird way in the dark.
There is also a green light game that Kappa pledgees have to go through. They have to run on a dark road holding a green light stick. Members of the Kappa fraternity then take turns tackling the pledgees.
But the most egregious thing Kappas have to do is do something called the Kappa cookie. They have to stand in front of each other and do something sexually explicit to a piece of food, usually a cookie, and then they must eat that cookie or piece of food.
Both the Alpha and Omega fraternity have to spit egg yokes into each others mouths while standing in line, the last person in the line has to swallow the egg yoke after it has been in all the other members’ mouths.
Many black fraternities have something called set during the pledging process, it is named after the greek god of chaos. During set fraternity hopefuls have to do a range of bizarre and weird tasks. Some pledgees are made to do homosexual things with other pledgees and fraternity members.
Sometimes the sexual requests are even made from female sororities.
