Dr. Naurice Frank Woods, 72, died on March 8, 2026 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Dr. Woods was a decorated African American & African Diaspora Studies professor at the University of North Carolina Greensboro for many years. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

Dr. Woods died from old age, he was in critical condition at the hospital surrounded by family and friends when he died.
No foul play is suspected in his death. He retired years ago from UNCG. Dr. Woods spent years at UNCG teaching thousands of students in the African American studies subjects.

Dr. Woods was known as an easy A professor, which he admitted. He taught with emphasis and direction, as many movies were watched in his classes for examples of the black subject at hand. Dr. Woods even took a Snoop Dogg doll to class to use as an example.

Dr. Woods didnt take attendance, so students chose when they wanted to come to class, but it was up to students to know the material on tests.

Dr. Woods earned a bachelors degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a masters degree in fine arts from UNCG, and a PHD in Art History from The Union Institute and University.
Dr. Woods leaves behind a wife, adult children, brothers, and grandchildren. His funeral is scheduled for March 14th in Greensboro.
