On March 11, 2025 a judge declared a mistrial in the Kendal Crank, 27, murder trial. The jury said that Adonis Smith was acting in self defense when he shot and killed Kendal in Charlotte, NC. Adonis was being shot at along with Tychicus Dobie and Marquis Smith. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
On the day of Kendal’s murder Tychicus and Adonis got into a shootout on East 28th Street. Kendal was killed in March 2019 during a shootout on East 28th Street while she was driving her vehicle.
Tychicus, Marquis, and Adonis are accused of getting into a shootout. It was then that Adonis shot back while he was driving. Kendal was inadvertently hit by crossfire during the shootout.
Kendal was not a intended target. Upon being hit Kendal then crashed the vehicle and was pronounced deceased. The gunfire of Adonis is what killed Kendal.
Multiple 911 calls were placed for the same location stating that Kendal was shot dead.
Tychicus, Marquis, and Adonis were later arrested all charged with murder and shooting into a vehicle. The actual suspects who started the shooting were never arrested.
But in March 2025 attorneys for Adonis claimed he was acting in self defense when he shot back at the people shooting at him. The defense attorney for Adonis also stated that Kendal was shot by accident.
Even knowing this information and seeing the video, over zealous prosecutors still chose to pursue the murder case on Adonis.
But a jury was not going for it, and they decided that Adonis was acting in self defense, a few jurors were undecided also, so that led to the jury not being able to reach a verdict.
