A terrorist attack took place on New Year’s Day 2025 January 1st in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, killed 15 people, shot 2 cops, and injured 30 people when he ran his all wheel drive heavy duty Ford truck into a crowd of people celebrating the new year. Shamsud is a U.S. citizen from Texas, he was also in the U.S. Army. The terrorist attack occurred in the French Quarter area. Thousands of people were celebrating the new year when at 3:15 a.m. Shamsud drove the truck through a police barrier and sped down Bourbon street running over around 30 people.
The truck was rented and had an ISIS flag on it. 15 victims were killed on impact. Shamsud then got out of his truck armed with a bullet proof vest and an assault rifle, the suspect began shooting into the crowd.
Shamsud was able to successfully shoot 2 police officers, the officers were injured, but survived. Cops returned fire and shot Shamsud dead.
Guns and explosives were found in the rental truck. Homemade pipe bombs that contained coils and nails were also found in the truck. Multiple victims were seen on the street hurt and dead.
The football Sugar Bowl between The University of Georgia and Notre Dame was postponed until Thursday due to the terror attack, the game will be played at the super dome.
Shamsud served in the Army on active duty from 2006 to 2015, then in the Army Reserve from 2015 to 2020.
Shamsud was deployed to Afghanistan in 2009, he has been married twice and got divorces in both marriages. The FBI and federal authorities are investigating this mass killing as an act of terror.
Shamsud attended Georgia State University from 2015 to 2017 and graduated with a degree in computer information systems.
