Video: Fresh sleet and frozen rain is falling from the Charlotte skies now, check out this aerial view. Trash pickup is cancelled

New sleet and freezing rain is falling in Charlotte, NC now on January 25, 2026 already adding to the ice and snow accumulations that have already fallen. Winter Storm Fern has been massive in other states and cities, Charlotte just got a little taste. Aerial video footage shows the roads capped with ice. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

The extra sleet and freezing rain will cause slicker roads and more power outages due to downed trees and power lines.

Due to anticipated hazardous road conditions from winter weather, Solid Waste Services will not collect garbage, recycling, yard waste, or scheduled bulky items on Monday, January 26th. Service will resume Tuesday, January 27, and operate on a one day delay for the remainder of the week.

Also due to inclement weather and in alignment with the Mecklenburg County emergency schedule, the NC Med Assist pharmacy and administrative offices will be closed Monday, January 26. Weather conditions are being monitored that may impact medication shipments early next week.

Some medications — including insulin and GLP-1 therapies must remain within a specific temperature range during delivery. If weather conditions affect shipping routes or delivery timelines, medications may be delayed.
