2 kids a brother and sister at elementary school were dropped off in the wrong neighborhood at 7 p.m. in Charlotte, the bus driver kicked them off bus. Now parents are considering legal action. The kids could of fell victim to sexual predators. The kids were in kindergarten and 4th grade at Charles H. Parker Academic Center
On August 25, 2026 a Charlotte Mecklenburg School bus dropped off a brother and sister at the wrong bus stop in the wrong neighborhood far from home late in the evening around 7 p.m. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
The kids attended Charles H. Parker Academic Center. Ashley Cofield got her kids ready for the first day of school on August 25th. Her kids were in fourth grade and kindergarten.
The kids got on the bus and went to school. But when it was time to take the kids home, trouble occurred. The kids got on the bus after school to return home. The school let out at 4:15, but the kids did not get off the bus until 6:45 p.m.
The kids were dropped off at the wrong bus stop in the wrong neighborhood and kicked off the bus by the bus driver, the kids were the last two on the bus. The kids got off the bus and did not know where to go, the kids were 30 minutes away from home.
The kids wandered to a random person’s house for help. With many sexual predators and child molesters in this world, the stranger could of been danger. Thankfully the stranger was nice and of sound mind, allowing the kids to come inside and get something to drink and a light snack. Even a Charlotte school bus driver was arrested accused of having sex with kids on school bus.
The stranger asked the kids what the name of their parents were and the kids told them their mom’s name was Ashley Cofield and that she was on the social media website Facebook.
The stranger then looked up Ashley on Facebook and confirmed with the kids if the face matched their mother, the kids said yes. The stranger then sent Ashley a message saying “I have your kids, contact me.”
Ashley knew it was late and began worrying about her kids, she checked the school bus app many times which gave incorrect information that the bus was just running late.
Ashley then got the Facebook message from the stranger and contacted them. Ashley thought her kids were being kidnapped for ransom. The stranger gave Ashley the address and Ashley drove 30 minutes to where her children were at the stranger’s home. Ashley picked up the kids, and they were safe thankfully.
At Tuesday night’s school board meeting, Charlotte Mecklenburg Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill said the school district was working to resolve school bus transportation issues, saying:
“We are the largest transportation system in the state. We are confident we’ll be able to resolve those issues in the first week of school as drivers become more familiar with their routes and traffic patterns.”
Ashley and her husband are now considering legal action against the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. The same school system was sued for $10 million and lost after a band teacher sexually assaulted a student. The school system tried to fight and deny the lawsuit, but ended up paying the cash by jury trial and court order.
