32-year-old Austin Robertson was killed in a police shootout on April 20, 2026 during a traffic stop on Interstate 85 in Anderson County, South Carolina. The cop was shot in the chest.
An Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputy initiated a traffic stop on I-85 for a traffic violation. The driver was later identified as Austin Robertson. See more videos of cops shot here.
The deputy requested backup and detained Robertson in the deputy’s patrol vehicle. When a second Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived, Robertson remained in the patrol vehicle.
During the encounter, Robertson got out of the deputy’s vehicle and there was a physical altercation involving him and the two deputies. Robertson over powered both deputies and able to get back to his car to retrieve a gun.
The deputies attempted to taser him. Robertson retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and shot one of the deputies in the chest. Both deputies returned fire, and Robertson was shot, pronounced dead at the scene.

The shot deputy was airlifted to the hospital via helicopter and was released a few weeks after the shooting.
