Kabuto is closed for good in University area, black folks say Kabuto had dress code seen has discriminatory towards black people, no hoodies or marijuana smell
The controversial Kabuto Japanese Steakhouse closed in May 2026 without notice. Perhaps sales were down. Many people complained about Kabuto. The restaurant was located in a strip mall at 1001 East WT Harris Blvd. Charlotte, NC. The Kabuto general manager was Hiro.

Within the last 6 months Kabuto even stopped selling sushi due to lack of labor to prepare the sushi. Kabuto admitted they needed to hire more employees so sushi preparation could continue.
Also the soda nozzles for drinks had black and gray build up on the interior. Kabuto made the news over the years for having a dress code seen has discriminatory. Hoodies were not allowed to be worn in the restaurant, you also could not enter the restaurant smelling like marijuana.
There were also other rules that many members of the public took exception to, especially in the black community. In a recent health inspection the manager on site did not have ANSI accredited food certification.
All of the aforementioned led to decreased sales and customers at Kabuto, the restaurant was forced to close due to financial constraints.
