On June 8, 2023 a Lyft driver was shot at while driving for customers on Interstate 85 in Charlotte, NC near Statesville Road. 3 teenagers were in the Lyft vehicle as customers.
The Lyft driver was driving 3 teens to a destination around 2:30 p.m. While on I-85 a car pulled up next to the Lyft and fired several shots.
The Lyft driver drove off the road in order to avoid the suspect vehicle. A teenage passenger in the Lyft was shot. The suspect vehicle sped off.
Once the Lyft came to a stop, the teenagers ran from the vehicle. The teens were found nearby. The shot victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
No arrests have been made yet.
After the shooting Lyft had this to say:
“Safety is fundamental to Lyft, and the incident described is deeply troubling. We stand ready to assist law enforcement with any investigation and are working to get in touch with all impacted parties to offer our support.”
