Marquavis Spencer, 18, pleaded guilty to second degree murder on May 15, 2026 in Charlotte, NC. Derrick Baker, 22, was the man killed by Marquavis during a shootout on Tom Hunter Road. Jamotis Watkins, 19, was also arrested charged with murder.
Derrick was murdered in a triple shooting on October 3, 2024 on Tom Hunter Road in Charlotte.
Derrick and 2 other people were shot. One of the shot victims included a juvenile. Derrick died on scene, the other 2 victims were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Jamotis was arrested on October 17, 2024 charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflict serious injury (2 counts), and attempted murder (2 counts). Marquavis was arrested on his birthday November 17, 2025 charged with murder.
In May 2026 Marquavis pled guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to 13 to 16 years in prison.
Derrick just had a new born baby, making him a new father. The murder case for Jamotis is still pending.
