A cell phone store owner was killed during a robbery
Tyrone Miller, 34, was sentenced to life in prison in June 2025 for the murder of
29-year-old Elchin Khalilov in Charlotte, NC. Elchin owned a cell phone repair store on North Sharon Amity Rd.

On the morning of January 14, 2019, Elchin was working at his cell phone repair store on N. Sharon Amity Rd. Tyrone entered the store with a hood on to conceal his identity. He then pulled a .45
caliber handgun out and told Elchin three times to close his eyes.
Tyrone then shot Elchin in the neck from a close distance, prosecutors say. Tyrone demanded to know the location of money. The victim directed Tyrone to the money while begging for help.
The suspect took two backpacks which contained a large amount of cash, a flash drive, the victim’s journal, and multiple cellphones, and calmly exited.
Elchin died on site. A witness from a neighboring business called 911 and was able to provide
a description of the person he saw leaving the victim’s store.
Early that same afternoon, and continuing for several days, Tyrone began sending out pictures
to friends and family of large amounts of cash and a Ruger .45 caliber handgun.
The suspect was arrested a month later charged with robbery and murder. At his June 2025 trial a jury found Tyrone guilty of first degree murder and robbery. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
