A suspect was wanted in a shooting. He was spotted on West Sugar Creek and barricaded himself in an apartment while shooting at cops
Gerico Alexander, 33, was arrested on September 1, 2026 accused of shooting at police on West Sugar Creek Charlotte, NC in an apartment complex. Gerico is a felon and is not suppose to have a gun. An automatic 5 years in prison is set if a felon is caught having a gun.

On Aug. 31, 2026, shortly before 5 p.m., officers located a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle of interest in connection with a shooting that occurred days earlier. The shooting left one individual with life threatening injuries.
A short time later, officers observed Gerico matching the description of a person of interest in the shooting investigation exit a nearby apartment. Gerico then returned inside the apartment and barricaded himself inside, prompting CMPD’s SWAT team to respond and assist with the incident.
During the course of negotiations, officers discovered that the suspect had a firearm inside the apartment. At approximately 12:26 a.m., Gerico fired his weapon at officers from inside his apartment. No injuries were reported by officers or the suspect, and no CMPD officers fired their weapons.
The communication efforts with the subject continued overnight and into Tuesday morning to attempt to bring this incident to a conclusion.
At 4:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, Gerico peacefully surrendered to SWAT officers. Gerico was arrested charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, attempted murder, assault on a government official, and possession of a firearm by felon.
