Laniya Bethea, 24, died in a head on wreck with a truck on the Interstate 94 highway in Romulus, Michigan on June 21, 2022. Laniya was a mother of 3 young kids ages 7, 3, and 2.
At 7 a.m. Laniya was driving a sedan vehicle on Interstate 94 after working her overnight shift at Fed Ex. Authorities say Laniya fell asleep at the wheel and veered into on coming highway traffic, crashing into a pickup truck head on.
The crash caused the truck and Laniya’s vehicle to move into the path of a 18-wheeler truck, which caused another collision.
All 3 vehicles caught fire. The driver of the truck had severe burns and was taken to the hospital. Laniya was injured and taken to the hospital too.
It was at the hospital that Laniya and the truck driver died. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt.
The crash shut down traffic on the interstate for hours. Laniya leaves behind 3 kids along with loving family and friends.
