Jamea Harris, 23, was killed in a violent shooting early in the morning on January 15, 2023 in Tuscaloosa, AL. Darius Miles, 21, and 20-year-old Michael Davis are both charged with the murder of Jamea. Darius was on the basketball team for the University of Alabama, until he was kicked off the team one day after the homicide.

Around 1:45 a.m. on January 15th Darius sent a text message to University of Alabama Basketball star Brandon Miller. Darius and Brandon were teammates at the university together. Brandon is a freshman and Darius is a junior.
In a text message, Darius told Brandon to bring his gun to him. The gun was in Brandon’s car, so Brandon drove to a party area of Tuscaloosa to give Darius the gun.
Jamea and her boyfriend Cedric Johnson were with Jamea’s cousin in Tuscaloosa near a slew of sports bars and clubs.
Darius tried to approach Jamea and get her phone number. Jamea refused his advances. Darius allegedly got angry.
Darius was with his friend Michael during this time. Jamea and her group got inside of a jeep. Darius and Micheal then had an argument with Cedric.
Brandon then arrived on scene with Darius’s gun in the back seat. Darius came to Brandon’s vehicle and got the gun. Darius then reportedly gave the gun to his friend Michael.
Michael is accused of approaching the jeep that Jamea and her group were in at a parking lot. Michael and Cedric then shot at each other, it is not clear who shot first.
Jamea was shot in the face, Michael was shot in the shoulder and the waist. The jeep then sped off. Jamea died on the scene. Darius nor Brandon were shot.
Jamea leaves behind a 5-year-old son. On January 16, 2023 Darius and Michael were arrested, charged with the capital murder of Jamea.
Cedric and Brandon were not charged. Jamea’s cousin was not arrested or shot either. Brandon is the leading scorer for the University of Alabama Basketball team and he is projected to be drafted in the first round of the NBA draft this year.
