In May 2022, a mistrial was declared in a homicide case where Shawn Harbin was shot and killed in Charlotte, NC. Talvi Moore, 37, was charged with Shawn’s murder.
Shawn was murdered in a violent shooting on Westridge Drive at 9 p.m. back on March 22, 2016. Shawn was murdered in front of his mother. Several shots were fired at Shawn’s mother too, but the shots missed her.
Medic pronounced Shawn deceased on scene.
It took over a year for an arrest to be made; Talvi was arrested, charged with Shawn’s murder, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
The Coronavirus postponed the trial for years. Talvi was offered a plea deal with a five-year sentence, but he turned it down.
After more than two weeks of trial, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. As a result, Superior Court Judge Karen Eady-Williams declared a mistrial on May 24, 2022.
Talvi is free and murder charges are not pending for him anymore. The charges can be brought back in a new trial if prosecutors decide to do so; but that is unlikely.
