29-year-old Kelton Silver and Ivan Petty, 28, were sentenced to prison on October 4, 2024 in Charlotte, NC for the murder of 28-year-old Zonta Dunlap. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
On the morning of December 26, 2018, Kelton and Ivan were meeting with Zonta’s cousin Devonte Robinson, 32, in a garage in Huntersville, NC. Devonte went inside the home briefly, where Zonta and his twin brother were hanging out upstairs.

A woman was murdered in a Walgreens parking lot in Huntersville, NC
Ivan put a gun to Devonte’s neck and threatened to rob him. Devonte fought Ivan in an attempt to get away and, during the struggle, Ivan fired two shots. Devonte was shot.
Zonta looked down the staircase to see what was happening and both Kelton and Ivan fired shots up the stairs striking Zonta multiple times.
Zonta tried to flee the home but collapsed on the lawn where he died.

A man was accused of stabbing a woman at a Quik Trip gas station in Huntersville, NC
Ivan was wearing an electronic monitor at the time of the murder, and his monitor showed he was at the scene at the time the murder took place.
Home surveillance video from outside the front door also showed Kelton and Ivan at the scene. Both suspects were arrested charged with murder.
At 2024 trial, Ivan pled guilty to second degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Ivan was sentenced to 360-444 months in prison.
Kelton was convicted of murder and will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
