The slick roads from snow storm forced a driver to lose control and crash in a retention pond at same new neighborhood where teen was murdered getting off school bus
A man driving a truck drove into a body of water as snow filled the roads in Charlotte, NC on January 31, 2026. The snow was 10 inches. The truck ran into the water at the intersection of Jerimoth Drive and Cuddington Drive. This is the same neighborhood where 17-year-old Nahzir Taylor was shot and killed while getting off the school bus, he went to Rocky River High School.

The snow storm caused many traffic accidents and delays. Fire communications received calls reporting a pickup truck had lost control, left the roadway down a steep hill, and entered a retention pond. Callers advised that the driver had exited the truck as it took on water and was standing in the bed of the truck at 7:35 p.m.
The first arriving fire crews found the pickup truck partially submerged in the pond with the driver standing in the bed of the vehicle. Charlotte Fire responded with multiple fire trucks. A inflated raft and ladder were used in the situation. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram. Also a fire fighter dive team was bought in to help save the man just in case he was sucked in by the frigid waters.

Firefighters made contact with the driver and successfully freed him at approximately 8:25 p.m. The man was cold and in need of food and hot coco. No additional injuries were reported. The truck had to be towed with a tow truck.
The hill in that neighborhood is very steep, the ice and snow really contributed to the truck sliding down at a fast pace into the freezing water.
