On February 18, 2026 James Dunmore, 52, pled guilty in the killing of his girlfriend Allisha Watts, 39, entering an Alford plea in court on Wednesday.

James and Allisha were in a dating relationship. Allisha had been missing for months out of Charlotte, NC. On July 18, 2023 Allisha’s black 2023 Mercedes Benz was located in Anson County, NC. Allisha was last seen on July 16, 2023 leaving her boyfriend’s home on Pamela Lorraine Drive Charlotte, NC.
On August 24, 2023 Allisha was found dead in a cemetery in Montgomery County, NC. Allisha was found decomposed so badly that her body stunk, her skin was mushy to the point that no finger prints or DNA could be taken as evidence of any crime. Allisha’s bones were showing, as her skin was slipping too.
Allisha’s boyfriend James was arrested on August 24th 2023 charged with Allisha’s murder.
James later admitted that he was going through a psychological episode, and Allisha was trying to help him. James jumped out of Allisha’s car and ran into the woods, Allisha ran after him.
James said he can’t remember what happened after that. James pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter and guilty to one count of failure to report a death by other than natural causes. He made an Alford plea which protects him from full prison terms and the charges will not go on his criminal records.
A judge sentenced James to 58 months minimum to 82 months maximum in prison.
